Which? Trusted Traders and Islington Council are working together to endorse reputable local businesses and help residents find trustworthy tradespeople.

At a launch event at Islington Town Hall yesterday (Thursday 22 March), Which? Trusted Traders and Islington Council’s Trading Standards team announced a joint endorsement scheme. As part of the new scheme, traders in Islington will now have the opportunity to be jointly endorsed by Which? Trusted Traders and the council, giving them a unique standing in the local community.

Beyond the assessment by Which? Trusted Traders, those applying will need to successfully complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and pass a national Trading Standards database complaints check by the council in order to join. The assessment process is thorough and not every business meets the high standards required. The joint scheme will give people in Islington greater reassurance when choosing a trader.

Cllr Andy Hull, executive member for finance, performance and community safety, said: “We want to make sure Islington residents get a good deal when they hire a tradesperson, and that’s why our Trading Standards team is working with Which? Trusted Traders on this joint scheme. Our borough has a huge number of very high-skilled and effective tradespeople and we look forward to welcoming them to join our endorsement scheme.”

Raj Kakar-Clayton, Managing Director of Which? Trusted Traders, said:
“By working with Islington Council we are offering tradespeople the opportunity to be part of something that will really make them stand out in the local community.

“Whether they’re looking for a local locksmith, builder or mechanic, we know that residents in Islington and further afield will benefit from the reassurance of this joint endorsement.”
